Douglas Primary School Week of February 23, 2015

Douglas Primary School
 Week of February 23, 2015

Our first day back from vacation was our 100th day of school!

Kindergarten classes celebrate 100th Day with hoodsie cup treats!

Congratulations to Grade 1 student Amber Borowski  for submitting 414
Box Tops and winning $100!

Congratulations to Mrs. Wheeler's first grade class
for bringing in 544 box tops for the month!

We celebrated 100th day with a PTO sponsored enrichment program- Bubbleology, presented by Keith Michael Johnson.

BUBBLEOLOGY - THE SECRET WORLD OF BUBBLES

You can learn a lot from a bubble.

Bubbleology enchants audiences of all ages with the art and science of soap bubbles.

As seen on Discovery Channel's "Time Warp", National Geographic TV and on-stage by invitation (twice) at America's largest science and engineering festival in DC, Keith uses bubbles—large and small—to explain liquids, solids and gasses, geometry, tension and pressure.

Keith builds beautiful sculptural creations (massive & miniature) with enthusiasm, humor and style.  One moment he will be encasing a dinosaur in a bubble and in the next moment he's encapsulating an audience volunteer.

While those demonstrations snare viewers attention—Keith reveals the science behind the magic, unfolding the "how-to" like a mystery, making it both educational and unforgettable.

PTO-Read Across Douglas
Read-A-Thon
In celebration of “Read Across America Week” (March 2-6,) the Douglas PTO is hosting a
Read-A-Thon Sunday, March 1st  – Monday, March 9th. The Read-A-Thon is a fun way to foster your child’s love for reading while also raising vital funds for our school. The best part? 100% of funds raised goes right to our schools and donations are tax deductible! If every student at the Primary & Elementary schools collected just $30 in pledges, we’d raise well over $15,000! Students are encouraged to read anything and everything (outside of school work and homework) - picture books, chapter books, novels, textbooks, journals, magazines, newspapers! Our goal is to get everyone reading!

1. Students read (or are read to) each day. Homework and school work do not count towards this total. Record the number of minutes read on the attached Read-A-Thon Log.
2. Gather sponsors. Ask your friends, family members and neighbors. Sponsors may donate by cash, check (made out to “Douglas PTO”) or on our website: www.douglaspto.my-pto.org . Record your donations on the attached Read-A-Thon Pledge Sheet.
3. Return the Read-A-Thon Log, Pledge sheet, and all money to your child’s teacher no later than Wednesday, March 11th
